I’ve read in more than one publication and heard from more than one person that keeping a list of things you’re grateful for, greatly improves your life… I tried it for while and didn’t hang in there, but I think I’m going to get back to it with a small addition: I think I’m going to specifically add things that make me laugh.
It seems, every couple weeks, I try to collect enough coherence to put together a blog. The actual process is really, that throughout those two weeks, I write ideas down and spend time figuring which ones strike me hard enough to expand upon. (or if you’re an English major, “upon which to expand…”) And yet here I am, the morning a blog is “due” (thank goodness it’s earlier in Florida… so I’m not late yet) still unable to figure out “exactly” what to write about.
But what a great problem to have, I’m surrounded by funny. I sometimes think it’s a big deal, in my own little world, to wake up look over my notes and abstractions, take out the pen du jour (oh wait this is typed…) and try to add substance to the “supposed” joke ideas I have already come up with. But the truth is, there’s so many laughs that’re so often just given to me by the world (friends, family, fate) that sometimes all I have to do is note THEM down and my job is practically done. It's like starting the 100 yard dash at the 40 yard line...
So far this year I’m surrounded by funny. And while it would take 30 paragraphs to have solid/coherent setups for each of the laughs I’m thinking of (in just the first 2 weeks of the year) I’m hoping in 2011 to really strive to jot down more completely how much and what I’m laughing at because so much more seems to actually come from the real world than ever before. Maybe it’s my perspective, maybe it’s my mood, maybe it’s just that I’m in a VERY lucky time, (HONESTLY... I don't care) any which way it happens I’m grateful… and I'll hopefully let you know my progress in keeping track of it.
