Listen First

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is accept good advice.
I think a good rule to follow is when 3 people you TRUST (not just any random group of 3 people... that's a little more risky.) give a suggestion on a joke, or a performance, well... then you should TRY it. I'm not saying you have to feel it, or vibe "cool" with it, but have a little faith that the people and writing FRIENDS you've cultivated along the performance path, especially the ones that have good things in mind for you, those who are giving you the thoughts that you obviously can't see because you're too close to the project or material.
I know I've written about finding writing friends you can trust to bounce material off, (I'm lucky to have some great ones...) and my point wayyy back then was to find people that know where you're headed in your perspective, so they help get you there quicker...
This kind of find is a bit different... Being in a play recently, and writing material for that play, leaves some different vulnerabilities, some new feelings, and some GREAT unfamiliar territory for this comic to explore. Traversing new honesty, as opposed to the/my usual exaggerated aspects of how I see EVERYBODY'S life, is at best "different", and at worst greatly uncomfortable... Sooo, relying on others you trust ("I" in this case) to more quickly put things in the right direction has been as grand a help as having an audience laugh at the new joke the first 10 times it's said...
Often as creators, we sit in a room, and write, and hope for the best. But good suggestions, from the right creative, and trusted writer/performer and yes, I need to say "director" friends are sometimes an even better use of our time. Like the audience above that laughs at the new joke, they have to listen first and sometimes we should too...

Hope Father's Day was grand for those that are Dad's, mine was a really wonderful day, I do wish my own father was still here to share it...
Thanks for reading.
